Is it responsible to show the world of 2040 in a positive light? Yes, because we need the vision and – even more importantly – the discussion.

It’s been now over 15 years that Mercedes Benz Pioneering has been entrusting us to envision what the future of our cities might look like. The key is: It’s not about being right; it’s about inciting discussions and giving space for thought. The visual landscapes we have been creating have been touring the world and been presented at numerious events to inspire and raise important questions.

In the 2024-25 edition we gazed into the crystal ball once more and juxtaposed 3 relevant global regions: How can an USA with its many polarities hold up as a technology leader? Will Europe be able to stay relevant in a rapidly shifting world? Or is it plainly Asia where the future will happen in the coming decades? We were tasked to draw a comparision by conceiving a vision of London, Los Angeles and Shenzhen next to each other.
